Why You May Be Missing Out on Your Promotion (Part 2)

(By Derrick)

This is part 2 of the 3 part series on the topic. Click here to read the first post.

We are learning from the book of Daniel. So here’s point no. 2.

Chosen for your excellence!

Daniel and his friends were chosen to serve in the King’s palace due to the qualities they possessed which separated them from their fellow country men – the Bible says, the King chose young men qualified to serve in the king’s palace (Daniel 1:4).

These children had cultivated some serious skills before they were captured that kept them saved and protected when everyone else was being killed and destroyed. Why? Because they worked not unto man but unto their God and that changed the level of excellence in their work.

Talk about company’s downsizing, short staffing or reduction in force, these are similar conditions we face today correct? Are we assets to our companies, churches, organisations, or do we keep jumping jobs, churches or organisations until we get promoted or move away when the feel good factor is over?

As a believer; with Christ in you, company’s, bosses and people should fight for you because they can see an excellent spirit that is in you. We should not be grumbling, murmuring, negligent, unfaithful or irresponsible, but since we carry His Spirit, we should perform every assigned task with diligence and excellence. No one should be able to point a finger at our work, because we work as unto the Lord and not unto men. (Colossians 3:22-24)

In Daniel 4:9, the pagan King himself declared that the Spirit of God resided in Daniel.

Romans 8:9 says, if anyone have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His. Many of us don’t doubt God’s Spirit lives in us but we fail to yield and obey his leading and hence live ungodly and defeated lives. We compromise in our work, bend rules, shirk our responsibilities/ duties and make excuses for our mediocre work.

Wake up, you got the Spirit of the Living God inside of you!!! God’s Spirit in you will train, guide and prepare you in every skill you need for a prosperous and successful future (Psalm 32:8). We must not lean to our own understanding but in all our ways acknowledge him (Proverbs 3:5)

Daniel and his friends did not fight for a promotion or never promoted self, but humbly submitted to their captors and were faithful in all their responsibilities so that no one in the entire kingdom could find a fault in their work. The Bible says the Lord granted favor to them with their captors and these pagan kings actually looked for ways to promote them.
